FAQs

Here are some easy to recognise signs your school-aged child will benefit from focused literacy instruction:
- Showing difficulty hearing the sounds in words
- Showing difficulty learning the names and sounds of the letters of the alphabet
- Struggling with vocabulary, reading accuracy, frequency and comprehension
- Struggling with handwriting, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and writing
- Presenting with difficulty organising thoughts, expressing ideas coherently, and using appropriate grammar or vocabulary in their writing
- Shows a lack of interest or enthusiasm for reading and writing activities
- Expresses frustration or anxiety when faced with literacy tasks
- Has poor self-esteem, particularly in relation to literacy-based activities
-
If you’re concerned about your child’s literacy progress, our best advice is don’t wait to investigate. Early identification is critically important for any child at risk of literacy difficulties. It takes four times as many resources to teach a child in Year 4 to read than it does to teach a child in Year 1.

At Elevate Literacy, we specialise in working with primary-aged children.

Your child’s regular sessions will be 45 minutes each.
For best results, we recommend one session per week, on the same day and time each week.
Active participation in your child’s intervention program is vital, and you play the most crucial role in this team effort. After each session, you will receive follow-up activities and games to reinforce learning at home, and your intervention teacher is always available to address questions and provide support. It truly is a collaborative effort.

At Elevate Literacy, we provide expert literacy instruction by fully qualified and experienced classroom teachers who have undertaken additional training in evidence-based practices. Our personalised approach is grounded in the Science of Reading and Learning, a robust body of research on how children develop literacy skills. Unlike general tutors, who can range from high school students to retired teachers, our educators are highly trained professionals. This distinction ensures that we deliver effective results for children struggling with literacy. We respect your time and investment, offering focused, high-quality intervention.
The initial session includes a comprehensive assessment and a detailed written report, priced at $225.
Ongoing sessions are $90 for each 45-minute lesson. Sessions are scheduled in accordance with school terms and are paid for in blocks of ten.

Assessment is essential before commencement of weekly lessons. The initial assessment session will take approximately one hour and involves specialised tools to identify your child’s strengths and current skill level. From this specific assessment, we create an individual learning program for your child.

Once you have made the decision to work with Elevate Literacy in support of your child, the next steps are simple. Reach out to us by phone or email, and we’ll promptly respond, arranging a convenient time for us to discuss your child’s specific needs. Together, we then schedule an assessment to evaluate your child’s current abilities and identify any gaps. Using this information, we’ll create a personalised learning program designed to address those gaps and enhance the child’s knowledge and skills.
Once the program is developed, we work with you to organise a weekly session time that suits your child’s schedule. Finally, witness your child’s confidence soar as they engage in our tailored program, experiencing steady growth and progress in their literacy skills.
At Elevate Literacy, we are committed to supporting your child’s educational journey and empowering them to achieve their full potential.

Elevate Literacy is a proudly supportive and inclusive learning environment. We have over 20 years of experience working with students with special learning needs in mainstream schools, coupled with lived experience with neurodivergence.
We approach each child as an individual and get to know their specific strengths, challenges and interests and their unique program will carefully reflect this. Elevate Literate welcomes collaboration with schools, families, and allied health professionals to provide the best possible outcomes for your child.

You will, but it will be a holistic improvement first, followed by a steady improvement in skills over an extended period. It’s important we set realistic expectations when commencing intervention. Because each child is unique, the process and length of success will vary depending on the individual. While confidence improves quite quickly, it can take longer to see tangible improvements in academic skills, especially if there are significant gaps in knowledge and skills. Learning to read and spell takes time, consistency, and dedication. If you have made the steps toward intervention, have faith in the process, the benefits will be inimitable in time.

It is never too late to teach a child to read. While it is generally easier for children to learn these skills at a younger age, individuals can learn to read at any age with the right approach, time, and support.
